Bodegas Lan Viña Lanciano Reserva 2016, Rioja, Spain

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium intensity.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing black fruits with light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, earth, herbs, tobacco leaf, vegetables and black tea.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 7 year old Tempranillo from Rioja is still young, but already enjoyable, even by itself.

This Single Vineyard is nicely balanced with a soft mouthfeel.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 10 years.

I’ve had a few different vintages of this wine and it is very consistent.

A blend of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano and 2% Mazuelo. Aged in French oak barrels for 14 months, and then for 7 months in Russian oak barrels.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$30.

  1. The LAN Winery began its story in 1972. The name itself, LAN, is composed of the initials of the three provinces that make up the D.O.Ca. Rioja: Logroño (now La Rioja), Álava and Navarra. I shared the Rioja Crianza a while back. Interesting story and a nice wine.
