Bodegas Juan Gil Monastrell Silver Label 2015 Jumilla, Spain

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead, wood, light vanilla, tobacco, coffee, chocolates, peppercorn and spices.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and nice long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, chocolates, light vegetables, mocha, peppercorn, leather, earth and graphite.

Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Spanish Monastrell is always enjoyable. Well balanced and fruity with mild complexity and a great mouthfeel. Has high alcohol content, but it’s not noticeable, so watch out…

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (30 minutes).

I paired it with Beef Wellington with mushrooms and red wine reduction. Very yummy.

15.5% alcohol by volume.

88 points.

$15.
