This week my Friday’s Cabernet fix is from Argentina.
Beautiful dark ruby in color with a wide brick /purple rim.
Very pronounced dark fruits on the nose, with blackberries, sweet plums, cherries, vanilla, leather, wood, licorice, spices, herbs, graphite, green pepper, cola, asparagus and peppercorn.
Medium to full-bodied, and smooth, with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Fruity on the palate with black currants, blackberries, blueberries, earth, oak, vanilla, cola, pencil lead, forest floor, vegetables, green peppers, bitter herbs and peppercorn.
Nice length on the finish with firm, yet round tannins and black pepper.
This Argentinian Malbec is very enjoyable. Very nicely balanced with nice complexity.
Right out of the bottle, it smells and tastes like a Californian Cabernet.
As it opens up (an hour later), it gets bigger tannins, and some more of the vegetable notes that I would expect from a South American Cabernet.
Drinking nicely now, but I’m going to leave my other bottle one additional year to see how it matures.
Good by itself, and great with BBQ Meats or roasted chicken dishes.
Grapes are hand harvested, and aged for 15 months in Oak barrels.
14% alcohol by volume.
