Domaine des Sables Verts Saumur Blanc 2020, France

Pale lemon in color.

On the nose citrus, apples, spices, light oak and melons.

Light to medium in body with medium plus acidity. Crisp and refreshing.

Dry on the palate with limes, lemon juice, green apples, light grapefruits, earth, spices and black pepper.

Medium length on the finish with black pepper.

This is a very interesting Chenin Blanc from France. Spicy, tangy and crispy.

Easy drinking and good for parties. Good by itself and better with food.

Will pair nicely with oysters. I had it all by itself by the beach.

100% Chenin Blanc grapes were hand harvested and aged in used French oak barrels for 4 months.
A small production of only 6,000 bottles.

Yannick Amirault Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil Les Malgagnes 2018, Loire, France

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Fruity nose with blackberries, blueberries, blackcurrants, cooked cherries, oak, light vanilla, spices, licorice, light tobacco, coffee, chocolates and black pepper.

Full-bodied with medium acidity.

Dry and fruity on the palate with black currants, blackberries, sweet cherries, plums, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, dark coffee, pencil lead, earth and peppercorn.

Spicy finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very enjoyable Cabernet Franc from Loire, France. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel and mild complexity.

Would benefit from another few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already very enjoyable.

Good right out of the bottle and better after 30 minutes of airtime. After an hour of airtime tannins come out.

Good by itself or with food. A nice sipping wine. I gave it a slight chill and paired it with cheeses and olives by the pool. Very tasty.

100% Cabernet Franc grapes aged in wooden amphoras for 11 months.

Domaine de Reuilly Denis Jamain Les Petites Fontaines Reuilly 1996 Loire, France

Light yellow in color.

Strong nose of over ripen citrus fruits, pears, yellow apples, apricots, mediterranean spices, light cumin and lemons.

Medium bodied with medium minus acidity.

Dry on the palate with citrus, lemons, over ripen apples, pears, light grapefruits, white pepper, minerals and spices.

Medium finish with limes and herbs.

It is always fun to drink these old wines. I’ve had this vintage before, and this bottle seems like it did not hold up as well, although still drinking nicely and interesting.

This 23 year old Sauvignon Blanc has a really interesting nose, but it is simpler on the palate.

Needs 20 minutes of airtime to open up in the glass.

I paired it with Brie cheese and baguette.

Domaine de Reuilly Sauvignon Blanc 1996 Loire, France

Pretty golden color with a yellow tint.

Great nose of grapefruits, spices, carmel and white pepper.

Light-bodied and engaging.

Dry on the palate with grapefruits, spices, honey, butterscotch and caramel.

Long and tangy finish, without any bitterness. So delicious.

Complex and interesting, with a touch of a young Sauvignon Blanc taste.

Needs 30 minutes to open up properly and needs to be very chilled.

This 23 year old Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire is crisp and refreshing, but not as crisp as a young Sauvignon Blanc from this region.

I always enjoy tasting a small piece of history.
