Concha Y Toro Castillo del Diablo Merlot Reserva 2019, Chile

Time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Earthy nose with bell pepper, vegetables, blueberries, light wood, wet leaves, dark coffee, spices, earth and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with currants, plums, green pepper, oak, licorice, cloves, earth, vegetables, wet leaves and peppercorn.

Medium finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a simple Merlot from Chile. Spicy and tangy.

Very green at this point, and needs a few hours to open up properly.

Still young and unbalanced, and would be better in 3 years.

Good by itself and better with food. I paired it with cheeses, nuts and fresh fruit.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

88 points.

$10.

  1. Tried this one a few times and always found it pleasant enough. For the price it is a real good value wine, as you said good with foods and alone. Nice job here.
