Elizabeth Spencer Wines Special Cuvée Grenache 2015 Mendocino County, California

Light ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blueberries, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, wood, licorice, light barnyard, milk chocolates, tobacco and black pepper.

Light to medium in body and smooth, with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, raspberries, black currants, oak, licorice, vanilla, spices, pencil lead, leather, earth, spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a nice surprise. I expected a big wine but this was gentle with a great mouthfeel, nice complexity and balance. Reminds me of new world Pinot Noir. Very fruity.
This is not my usual drinker, but I really enjoyed it.

Needed an hour to open up properly and show some tannins, and that wonderful nose. Became bitter after a couple of hours, which I didn’t like.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

88 points.

$30.
