Château Elan Winery Reserve American Merlot 2014, Georgia State

My Rating 87 Points.

Price $27.

Nice purple in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose with cherries, raspberries, blueberries, earth, vanilla, cloves, pine, cinnamon, chocolates, mint, alcohol, pencil lead, spices and peppercorn.
Nice complexity on the nose.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity, smooth and velvety, with long legs.

Dry on the palate and tart on the attack with raspberries, cherries, cranberries, pomegranate, earth, cinnamon, vanilla, chocolates, dark coffee, leather, tobacco leaf, vegetables, spices, black pepper and graphite.

Medium finish with firm, yet fine-grained tannins and tart cranberries.

This Reserve Merlot from Georgia state is drinking very nicely now. Fruity and bright. Not completely balanced, but with very nice complexity both on the nose and palate.

I had this Merlot 2 years ago and it was austere and very hard to drink. Kept it for 2 years in the cellar, and it has mellowed down with nice tannins.

Not very pleasant right out of the bottle. Needs 1 hour to open up properly and show some tannins.

14.5% alcohol by volume.
