Jamieson Ranch Vineyards Whiplash Malbec 2015, California

My Rating 85 Points.

Price $14.
Dark purple in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose with plums, currants, cherries, red candy, earth, light leather, milk chocolates, tobacco leaf, green beans, licorice, spices and black pepper.

Light to medium bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, cherries, earth, oak, alcohol, cola, licorice, chocolates, earth, leather, light green vegetables, spices and peppercorn.

Medium finish with very fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

Right out of the bottle it drinks like a thin California red wine, drinkable but not special. After 90 minutes in a decanter, it gets more structure and some tannins.
Not fully balanced and spicy, with mild complexity.

Enjoyable by itself or with food. I paired it with a charcuterie board of Meats and cheeses.

This is not the Argentinian Malbec I’m used to, although very pleasent. I would have liked it to have more body, though.

Needs 2 years to come to its own.

14.5% alcohol by volume.
