Rodney Strong Vineyards Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, California

My Rating 78 Points.

Price $18.

Deep purple in color with a purple rim.

Nice nose of oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, blackberries, cherries, plums, metals, sage, spices and peppercorn.

Full bodied with medium acidity and a harsh mouthfeel.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, cassis, earth, cedar, vanilla, cloves, tobacco, coffee, bitter almonds, green vegetables, bitter herbs and black pepper.

Medium finish with firm tannins and tart strawberries.

A Drinkable Cabernet for the middle of the week. Average at best. Unbalanced and not very elegant. I liked the nose more than the palate. Might be better in a year or two.

Would be best paired with BBQ Meats. I’ve had this before, and actually liked it better, so maybe this is a bad bottle…

13.5% alcohol by volume.

  1. I think your assessment is spot on. We picked this up recently and it wasn’t a pleasant bottle. Although, it wasn’t as bad as the Old Vine Zin we opened next that smelled & tasted like a forest fire.
