Frog’s Leap Napa Valley Zinfandel 2013, California

My Rating 89 Points.

Price $30.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

A very typical California Zinfandel nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, figs, raisins, oak, vanilla, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, smoke and cloves.

Full bodied, ripe and jammy, with medium acidity and long legs.

Fruity on the palate with blackberries, dried plums, cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, raspberries, earth, pencil lead, leather, vegetable notes, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices and peppercorn.

Medium plus in finish with soft tannins and black pepper.

A Nice Zinfandel from Napa Valley, California. Complex, but not fully balanced yet. Still young and a little bitter on the ending, which will go away in a couple of years. Enjoyable by itself or with food. I paired it with BBQ Meats.

Needs an hour to open up properly. I had this vintage last year, and it wasn’t ready for drinking, in my opinion. I’m glad to see that now, it is getting closer to its potential.

13.8% alcohol by volume.

  1. We brought Frog’s Leap Zinfandel home from our anniversary trip and it was one of the best memory/wine ever because it was influenced by our trip, but I don’t care because of the precious memories. The winery/vineyard tour is absolutely delightful. Thanks for posting this beautiful reminder. Cheers.
