Santa Barbara Highlands Vinyard Nadia Santa Barbara County Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, California

My Rating 91 Points.

Price $20.

This week, my Friday’s Cabernet, was paired with a category 3 Hurricane.

Deep ruby/ inky in color with a short dark ruby rim.

Tight nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, wildflowers, black pepper, spices, chocolates and smoke.

Bold, full bodied and a little harsh, with medium acidity and nice legs.

Fruity and bone dry on the palate, with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, earth, leather, light green pepper, chocolates, tobacco, herbs and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with firm, angular tannins and black pepper.

A Nice and enjoyable Cabernet Sauvignon from Santa Barbara County. Balanced, yet young, with a nice mouthfeel, and needs a few years to improve. Complex and interesting by itself or with food.
I paired it with steak and baked potatoes.

A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot.

Grapes are grown at around 3000 feet elevation, and aged for 18 months in Oak barrels.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

  1. I am glad you had a nice cab to go with Matthew, and I hope you’re ok! We celebrated the hurricane that passed us by with Victor Cabernet Sauvingnon 2011 – my cousin’s contribution to the Yom Tov table that never got opened for some reason. That was soooo good! Shana Tova to you and yours!
