Kirkland Signature Series Napa Valley Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, California

My Rating 90 Points.

Price $20.
Time for my Friday’s Cabernet fix… Anyone care to join?

Dark ruby in color with a purplish/ ruby rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, plums, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, cloves, tobacco, green pepper, coffee, chocolates and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and nice long legs.

Fruity and dry on the palate, with blackberries, plums, cherries, black currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, smoke, light bell pepper, coffee and chocolates.

Long finish with firm, yet young, tannins and tart cherries.

A great Napa Cabernet at a good price. Nice and balanced, but still young, and needs a few more years in the bottle to smooth out. Very enjoyable by itself or with food, like BBQ Meats.

Nice and tight mouthfeel. Still has some vegetables notes though, which will go away in time, hopefully. Needs 2 hours to open up properly.

Grapes are grown in the Stags Leap District, on volcanic clay soils and on 50 year old vines.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

  1. I bought a couple of bottles based on this review. I’m not a wine drinker, but my sweetie is, and she approved. She works in the wine industry and knows her stuff, so if she approves, it passes the test. I really enjoyed this wine and will certainly buy it again. For $20 it seems like a steal to me.
