Rombauer Vinyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, California

My Rating 89 Points.

Price $55.

My Friday’s Cabernet fix…

Dark inky in color with a purplish rim.

Strong nose of blueberry stew, cherry pie, blackberries, sweet plums, spices, oak, vanilla, licorice, cola, earth, leather and peppercorn.

Full bodied, jammy and bold, with medium plus acidity and nice long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate, with blackberries, black currants, plums, vanilla, licorice, cloves, earth, leather, green pepper, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices and black pepper.

Long finish with firm tannins, bitter spices and cola notes.

A true California Cabernet with all the bells and wistels.
Was too much for me, but nicely balanced and enjoyable by itself. Great wine to pair with a piece of steak.

A bit bitter on the ending, and some vegetables notes, that should all go away in a couple of years. Drinkable now but will age nicely in the next few years.

Grapes are hand picked, and aged in French oak barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

  1. Great review, as always. The way you describe it, it probably would’ve been too much for me as well. Our Shabbat Cabernet was a Chilean Terra Vega 2015, very berry – went very nicely with Salmon Florentine – and soft tannins, which is more my thing. So l’chaim to you!
In addition to the cab, my husband got a Don Guillermo de Mendoza Argentinian Malbec 2014, and informed me that there are about 4 or 5 Mendoza region Malbecs. Just passing on the info, but I would certainly love to see your review.
    Shavuah Tov!
