Cruz Alta Grand Reserva Malbec 2012 Mendoza, Argentina

image

My Rating 86 Points.
Price $12.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity on the nose with white flowers, blackberries, black currants, plums, cherries, oak, light vanilla, licorice, spices, light alcohol and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and great looking legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, blackberries, vanilla, oak, light cloves, tobacco, pencil lead, ginger, bitter greens and lots of peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and black pepper.

This is a nice Malbec, very peppery, with interesting spices. Above average, but with some red spices on the mid palate, that made it less pleasing to me. However, it is enjoyable by itself or with food.
One has to enjoy spicy wines in order to enjoy this Malbec. Decanted for 3 hours before tasting.

Grapes grown at an altitude of 3,300 feet. Aged in mostly French oak barrels for 9 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

  1. I hate bad Malbec (way to many out there), but I love great Malbec, sadly it requires enough age and aeration to be able to tell the difference, it can be a turn off to folk that are new to wine or to this varietal. Your reviews are killing me!! I have such a list of wines I need to find that I will die before I taste them all. Keep them coming.
